The medical term alcoholic means someone that is dependent on alcohol. The name alcoholism is defined as the inability to control how much alcohol can be consumed at any given time. Alcohol abuse happens when there are unhealthy drinking habits such as drinking too much in one sitting or drinking to an excess daily. Doing this every day eventually leads to dependency. Since it’s become habitual, like any other habit it becomes hard to break away from the cycle.
There are signs that you should be aware of when it comes to alcoholism. Alcoholics become a menace not only to others but themselves, they will blackout, get arrested for drinking and driving and sometimes end up hurting themselves or others in the process. Craving for alcohol or suffering from withdrawal after not drinking are sure signs of alcohol dependency. When someone who has been drinking decides to stop taking alcohol their body goes through withdrawal. The body shows signs that a withdrawal is happening, such as nausea and anxiety. If the above symptoms are a little close to home, then you or the person facing them needs to see a doctor.
